Yoga Nidra Workshop & Training – Zoom

Yoga Nidra Workshop & Training

Is your favorite part of your yoga class Savasana? Have you ever wondered what a longer deeper relaxation would feel like? What might it do for your stress levels or health in general!

Learn to facilitate and appreciate the full benefits of Yoga Nidra, a deep form of guided meditation that systematically takes you through four brain wave levels on a journey toward yogic sleep. Studies show that one Nidra session translates to the equivalent of 2-3 hours of restful sleep. This practice is deeply restorative and healing for the mind, heart, body, and spirit, and has been used successfully to non-invasively treat the impacts of trauma on the body. Two methods will be taught, including those pioneered by Swami Satyananda Saraswati and Richard Miller. Led by Shirley Berthelet. Students and teachers welcome.

Yin Yoga via Zoom

Yin Yoga via Zoom Mar 1, 8, 15 & 22 from 7-8 pm. If you are interested in signing up for the session let me know. I am offering this at a special price of $40.00 for the session.

If you are interested in signing up but can not be present at all the classes I will record the class each week and send it to you via email.

Yin is a slower class than both the gentle and the Thursday evening classes as we will be creating shapes in our bodies and sustaining the shape sometimes assisted by props. It is not a restorative class even though we are holding postures and using props. If you have an injury associated with the tissues the class is targeting, please take time to heal first before participating.
“Yin Yoga is the other half! Most forms of yoga today are dynamic, active practices designed to work only half of our body, the muscular half, the “yang” tissues. Yin Yoga allows us to work the other half, the deeper “yin” tissues of our ligaments, joints, and deep fascial network and even our bones. All of our tissues are important and need to be exercised so that we can achieve optimal health and vitality.”

We are more than just our physical bodies. Yoga teaches us that what we do with our physical bodies affects our emotional and spiritual bodies.
Yoga is a Sanskrit word meaning “union” and Nidra means “dream”. Therefore, in Yoga Nidra the mind of the individual, the body and the intellect are in a complete state of relaxation and may even seem to be sleeping, but in reality, their consciousness is active and functioning at a higher level deep. In a person’s yoga dream he is taught how to get out of the waking state, go beyond the dream state and even go into deep sleep, but nevertheless stay awake.

What is Yoga Nidra?

• Yogic technique where we learn to relax consciously
• The mind and awareness disassociated from the senses
• 5th step or Limb of “The 8 Limbs of Yoga” – Pratyahara – withdrawal of senses from their external objects fosters transcendence beyond the physical body and its senses. Through this practice, an individual is able to withdraw and then detach from their physical senses by directing their attention inward.
• Sometimes referred to as Yogic Sleep
• A state between sleep and wakefulness
• In touch with all 3 levels of consciousness:

o Consciousness
o Unconsciousness
o Sub-consciousness
• A way of moving carefully through the Koshas – sheaths to help us bring our attention inward,
to plant a seed for a desired change with a resolve or Sankalpa, intention
• State of wholeness, integration; original or true self
